Cytotoxic T Cells in motion!

Cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) secrete lytic proteins to destroy infected or cancerous cells. Using high-resolution 4D imaging, scientists at the University of Cambridge and National Institutes of Health have shown that CTLs approach target cells with actin-rich projections at the leading edge. Granules clustered around the centrosome move to the synapse between the 2 cells. As actin is removed from the area, granules secrete their deadly cargo of hydrolytic enzymes that destroy the target cell.
