Microbial Home by Philips Design » Yanko Design

This amazing house design uses bacteria to treat, filter, process, and reuse household wastes like sewage, effluent, garbage, wastewater. The central hub in the Microbial Home consists of a methane digester, which converts bathroom waste solids and vegetable trimmings into methane gas that is used to power a series of functions in the home.

The central hub is designed as a movable kitchen island, including a chopping surface with vegetable waste grinder, a gas cooking range. Methane is produced by developing a culture of bacteria living on the organic waste material. The gas from the methane digester is fed to a cooking range and gas mantle lights.
Water pipes are preheated by the digester and channeled to other components. An urban beehive provides a steady supply of honey. It has a flower pot outside and a glass vessel containing an array of honeycomb frames for bees to build their wax cells on. Smoke can be released into the hive to calm the bees before it is opened, in keeping with established practice. The house design also includes a bio-light, a diagnostic bathroom that tracks your health, a compost toilet, and a compositor for PLASTICS!
